Social Media Marketing

In the last 5 years, social networks have acquired about 1 billion new users. Yes you read that right. 1 billion! Indeed, now over one third of the world’s population is accessible via social media. Let that sink in for a minute!

Thus, companies have gone from being skeptical about marketing on social media to seriously investing in it. Brands are acknowledging the power of social media to attract and engage customers!

The bad news? Webbiquity reports that 83% of customers have reported bad experiences with social media marketing.

As a business owner, it’s clear that using social media marketing to your advantage is critical. But do you know how to maximize the impact of your social media marketing campaigns? Do you know what your goals should be? How to achieve them?

This post will help you answer these questions.

Why does your business need a social media presence?

While it may seem overwhelming, social media’s importance cannot be overstated. It’s so important that 97% of marketers are using social media. While, 78% of salespeople outsell their peers, through social alone.

However, not all businesses understand the benefit of using social media. In fact, 50% of small businesses aren’t using social media to promote their business. What is even more concerning, is that an additional 25%, don’t plan to use social media in the future.

Clearly, there is a disconnect. A gap between those reaping the benefits of social media and those struggling to get started.

If the latter sounds like you, keep reading.

Benefits of using social media

  • Establish Trust
To begin with, people purchase from brands they trust. This trust can be established through social media. When people trust your brand, as a consequence, it indirectly influences their intent to buy.
  • Build Credibility

In light of establishing trust, you also build credibility through social media marketing. With increasing amounts of consumer engagement and followers, you are more likely to influence potential buyers. In fact, recent consumer research indicates that 51% of Facebook fans and 67% of Twitter followers are more likely to buy from brands they follow.

  • Increase Brand Awareness
Over 2.8 billion people have access to Internet and 74% of online adults use social media. So, its a no-brainer that you can leverage social media to increase brand awareness. When consumers make purchasing decisions among different options, they are more likely to select a product that they are familiar with.
  • Humanize Your Brand

Social media has been great for breaking the stigma of faceless brands that are only after customers’ money. These days, consumers care just as much about who they’re buying from as they do about what they’re buying. Use social media as a way to humanize your brand. Use social to showcase your company’s personality.

  • Reputation Management

People will talk about your brand on social media regardless if you’re active or not. You can use a tool like Sprout Social to monitor mentions of your brand name. This enables you to quickly respond to customer complaints or issues.

  • Increase Website Traffic

Finally, according to research from Shareaholic, social media drives 31% of all website traffic. Considering the amount of people on sites like Facebook, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

You don’t need to be a professional videographer to capitalize on this either. All you need is a smart phone and some good lighting. We can assist you with editing.

Does your content benefit your customers? What’s in it for them? Understand what they care about and deliver content that is relevant and useful.

  • Be human

Consider posting real time photos of your team. It shows your brand as human and approachable. This can include images of your team’s volunteer / charitable work, “bring your pet to work day” ,birthday celebrations, and so on.

  • Schedule your posts

Lastly, use a social media marketing tool to schedule your posts to go out at optimum times. Buffer is my personal favorite but Hootsuite is another great alternative to try.
